Warm congratulations to Aviad Mayles, a bachelor's degree graduate of the faculty (1998) on a huge exit: Apple acquires the Israeli startup q.ai for about $1.5 billion.
This is Mayles' second exit from the technology giant: in 2013, the company acquired his previous startup, Primesense.
The startup operates in secret mode and not much is known about its product. According to Apple, it develops innovative machine learning applications to transform audio and communication experiences, including technology that enables whispering and improves audio in challenging environments. According to patents filed by the company, it has developed technology that can interpret tiny facial movements using wearable computing to understand words, technology that can decode "silent speech" based on muscle movements alone, and technology for a head-mounted system that uses a laser beam to detect subtle muscle movements. These technologies could be used to improve communication between users with wearable devices such as AirPods or the Vision Pro helmet, and enable better communication with the AI assistant Siri.
Great pride!!
