Research Labs and Centers

Our laboratories proudly train students and researchers. They create new knowledge through discovery, while getting hands-on experience at the state of the art laboratory equipment. The diversity of labs linked below enables students and faculty to achieve high expressivity. Projects in the labs are either driven by the research interest of the faculty, or by industrial collaborations.
Computational Biology
Established in 1996, the CBL comprises several faculty members from Computer Science and Biology Departments and their graduate students (some of them under joint supervision).
Center & Laboratory for Intelligent Systems
The Intelligent Systems Laboratory was founded in 1989. The scope of activities in the laboratory covers research in different areas and mainly focuses on computer vision, image processing, robotics, and aerial and ground autonomous vehicle navigation. Research projects in the laboratory include undergraduate term and year projects, M.Sc. and Ph.D. theses, and likewise joint industrial-academic research with local hi-tech industrial organizations. ISL’s primary activity occupies theoretical and applied research, as well as interdisciplinary interaction promotion.
Center for Graphics & Geometric Computing
We conduct basic research in computer graphics, solid modeling, geometry processing, visualization, and discrete and computational geometry. This research is applied to solve practical problems in a variety of application fields.
Computational Robotics Lab
The Computational Robotics Lab is a center for foundational research on the computational challenges that arise when planning for robots.
Computer Systems
CSL is a research laboratory that hosts faculty members’ research on computer systems. CSL was established when four new members, whose expertise revolves around computer systems, joined the faculty. CSL succeeded DSL, the Distributed Systems Laboratory, which was established in 1996. The new lab structure and name emphasizes the broadening of the scope of the lab to all systems-related work.
Cyber and Computer Security Laboratory
The laboratory was founded in 2012, and has been growing steadily since then. The laboratory concentrates on the areas of SCADA Security, Trusted Execution Enviroment (Trusted Zone & SGX), Security of Autonomous Cars Technology, Ransomware Projects, and Reverse Engineering, Cryptography , and finding weaknesses in widely used cryptography protocols (e.g, GSM and Bluetooth), and more.
Geometric Image Processing Laboratory
The laboratory pioneered the emerging field of analyzing and processing images through geometrical tools and sparse and compressive sensing techniques. We are active in deep learning, shape analysis, geometry processing, and understanding of big geometric data. We collaborate with clinical labs, hospitals, the high-tech industry, and academic labs at the Technion and beyond.
Augmented and Virtual Reality Lab
The laboratory collaborates between The Geometric Image Processing Laboratory (GIP) and the Center for Graphics and Geometric Processing (CGGC). The laboratory offers students projects in virtual and augmented reality while emphasizing innovative ideas of man-machine interface. The students implement applications that use advanced virtual reality and augmented reality technologies in 3D graphics and computer vision.
Interdisciplinary CS Center for Smart Technologies (ICST)
The Interdisciplinary Center for Smart Technologies in the Computer Science Department of the Technion design and implement State of the Art projects in the IoT and other related fields, together with other Technion faculties and the High-tech Industry.
Information Storage & Memories Laboratory
The laboratory was founded in 2014, and has been growing steadily since then. ISM supports projects by undergraduate students as well as the research of M.Sc. and Ph.D students in the general areas of storage and memories. Most of the dedicated equipment is targeted towards the evaluation of memory chips such as flash memories and large scale storage systems.
The Laboratory for Computer Communication & Networking
In the LCCN laboratory we mentor undergraduate and graduate students who want to scale up their practical and professional networking knowledge, alongside building strong connections between academia and industry. We focus on innovative research of the current network protocols and participate in the design of future networking technologies.
Storage Research Lab
The infrastructure for the “big data revolution” consists of systems that support storing, processing, and delivering large amounts of data efficiently. The research in the STORE lab addressed the key components of such systems, including solid-state storage technologies, caching, edge computing systems, content distribution, deduplication, data durability and recovery, and workloads characterization.
Technion Computer Engineering
TCE is an interfaculty center established in 2011. Its vision is to lead worldwide computer engineering research and education, and to operate as a focal point for academic and industrial collaboration.
Technion Data & Knowledge Laboratory
Every day modern society generates an astounding amount of digital data, from which researchers in different fields wish to produce useful knowledge. The laboratory focuses on developing infrastructures for data management and analysis that are based on a solid theoretical basis. The research in the laboratory is conducted by the faculty members, by their M.Sc. and Ph.D students, and by post-doctoral fellows.
Theory of Computation
The foundations of computer science are rooted in mathematics, and the field which focuses mostly on studying these foundations through the mathematical lens is called Theory of Computation, or Theoretical Computer Science (TCS). Prominent sub-fields of TCS include: algorithms, computational complexity, cryptography, and distributed computing, to name a few.
Visual Sensing Theory & Applications Laboratory
The VISTA laboratory was founded in 2017 and focuses on theoretical and practical aspects of visual sensing and machine learning. Our research avenues include theoretical and computational methods in imaging and 3D sensing, image processing, computer vision, numerical geometry, machine learning, and large-scale data analysis.
