Mare Tarang

Name: Mare Tarang
E-mail: mare@ut.ee
Homepage: http://www.ut.ee/~mare
Host institution: SINTEF Applied Mathematics (SINTEF), Norway
Period of visit: September 2002 - March 2003

Project descriptions

Splines are fundamental tools in numerous branches of applied mathematics. During her visit, Mare designed programs in Matlab to construct so-called minimally supported B-wavelets for a given spline order d and two nested knot sequences. For given coarse and fine knot sequences she used explicit alghoritms to determine the supports of the B-wavelet functions, though only up to a normalization constant. An open question here is how to fix the normalization factor for each B-wavelet function to get best possible stability for the whole B-wavelet spaces.

Conferences

Mare was sponsered by MINGLE to participate in the following conferences and workshops, presenting recent research results:

  • MINGLE workshop, February 26-28, 2003, Genova, Italy, giving a talk about "Construction of B-wavelets"
