The Weldler and Rosenbaum Families
Last updated, July 11, 2004
David Deutsch's first wife was Hanni Weldler.
The Parents of David Deutsch's second wife,
Bertha (Elisabeth) Rosenbaum were
-
Moritz Rosenbaum
-
Anna Rosenbaum-Weldler.
The Weldler Family
Herschel Weldler , born in St. Georgen 1781.
Married to Hanny Weldler from St. Georgen.
No further data.
Among their children there is
a daughter, Netty (Schay) Weldler, born in 1816 in St. Georgen.
Netty married in a first marriage to become Netty Bral.
In a second marriage she is married to Moritz Rosenbaum.
According to Valerie David's recollections she was
an astute and successful business woman.
Her gravestone inscription refers to her as youthful at the age of 93.
Her business allowed her husband, Moritz Rosenbaum, to dedicate
his whole life the study of the scriptures, in which he,
seemingly excelled.
In 1895 he travelled to the USA.
Documents
- Birth certificate Herschel Weldler (=Waeldler), 1781,
in St. Georgien.
- Birth certificate Netty Weldler (1816), daughter of Herschel
and Hanny Weldler in St. Georgien.
Note: Netty Weldler is the mother of David Deutsch's second wife.
David Deutsch's first wife, also a Hanni Weldler, was a relative of
Herschel Weldler, husband of Hanny Weldler.
Hence the two wives of David Deutsch were (first or second) cousins.
They all come from St. Georgen (Sv. Jur, St. Gyoergy) in Upper Hungary
(today Slovakia) not far from Trnava.
Note: Anna Rosenbaum-Weldler was married 62 years to Moritz
Rosenbaum and died in 1912. Moritz Rosenbaum married in 1850
an Anna Schay (a widow). Schay is Hebrew for gift.
Hence Anna Rosenbaum-Weldler
is the Anna Schay. Moritz Rosenbaum fathered a daugher, Elisabeth,
with Netty Bral in 1854. Anna Rosenbaum is referred to as Netty
in Arpad's letter.
Hence Netty Bral is Anna Rosenbaum, and Bral is her first
husbands name.
The Rosenbaum Family
Josef Rosenbaum
born in Teleki 1788, died in Brezov (hungarian: Berezoe),
29.5.1863.
Rabbi of Brezov 1832-1863.
He had a son,
Moshe Nahum (Moritz) Rosenbaum, born in Izsak (Hungary) 1827.
Died in Trnava 1915. Seemingly a gifted talmudic scholar.
Cantor in Trnava.
He was also the Sandak of Herman Deutsch, son of David Deutsch from
his first marriage.
Moritz married
Anna (Netti) Schay Bral-Weldler from St. Georgen, born 1816,
widow, in 1850. She died in Trnava in 1912, after 62 years of marriage.
Among their children is a daughter, Elisabeth Rosenbaum,
born 1854.
Josef Rosenbaum had at least one more son born in Brezov,
Emrich Rosenbaum,
who was married to Terezia Spatz from Koertvelyes, daughter of Jakob Spatz.
More relatives of Moritz Rosenbaum seemingly lived in Ipolypaszto (Hungary).
Note:
The birth certificate and the marriage contract speak of Elisabeth
Rosenbaum, but she is buried as Bertha Rosenbaum.
Bertha is a Frankian name with Christian connotations.
Elisabeth is Hebrew. A common short form of Elisabeth is Betty.
It is likely that Elisabeth was called Betty, which at her death
was taken for a nickname of Bertha.
