| In May 2006 I participated in Mobihoc 2006 conference. The conference took place in Florence, Italy, in the Convitto della Calza beautiful ancient monastery recently renovated and transformed in a meeting center. After the conference I have stayed for one week more and traveled in Tuscany with Li-Tal. |
|
I have spend 5 days in Florence during the conference. On one of the days we visited San Gimignano medieval village located 55km south-west of Florence. Li-Tal has arrived at the last day of the conference and together we made the Pizzo d'Uccello Trek in the Apuan Alps. Apuan Alps are part of Tuscan Apennine mountains. After the trek, on the way back to Florence, we passed through Pisa.
Tips and route information about Pizzo d'Uccello trek.
6 reasons why to do the Pizzo d'Uccello trek:
Since it is a relatively unknown trek, not a lot of people outside Italy have heard about Apuan Alps and not a lot of people get to do this trek.
Since it is a very beautiful trek and the views are really up to New Zealand's standards.
Since Michelangelo picked the marble for his sculptures, including "David", in the Apuan Alps mountains around Carrara.
Since the trek is challenging and it is relatively hard to get to its start (bus at 6:30)
Since you get to climb more than 1000 meter just from the start of the trek in about 3-4 hours.
Since Gabi & Li-Tal got lost at the trek while walking without a map (and all our competitive friends must do better...)
