Abstract:

 
Entrepreneurship is an essential factor in economic growth of
knowledge economies and a key competitive advantage for the
State of Israel. Entrepreneurship as an academic research area
and as a profession, with its own body of knowledge which can be
taught, is a rather new phenomenon but a very fast growing area.
All major research universities and business schools in the US
have Entrepreneurship programs and Centers, Entrepreneurs in
Residence and out-reach activities. Entrepreneurship is a new
area in the faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management and
is involved in teaching and research. The recently established
Technion Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation supports
entrepreneurial initiatives in the Technion such as BizTEC. The
entrepreneurial process and in particular the opportunity
discovery and evaluation phase can also enhance the quality and
relevance of Technical Research in the Technion faculties.
