Abstract:
During the last two decades, the ways in which software is developed has
undergone fundamental changes. The way in which software development is
taught in most places (at least in Israel), on the other hand, is very
similar to what it was 20 years ago. The result is a large gap which
becomes wider by the day. This situation constitutes a major challenge
for Software Engineering programs all over the world.
In the beginning of the talk, we present our views on the reasons of
this gap and survey the situation in Israel. On the second half of this
talk we sketch some elements of a proposed core curriculum for teaching
software development in the next decade and share some of the experience
gathered during the development of the Software Engineering program in
Netanya Academic College.
