Sorry, but I could not help bothering you with a few facts and thoughts about latest events. You do not need to save it. I'll put it (as text) on the Web (look for "Sorry, I told you :-(" on my page). Happy New Year Yechiel (Sep. 22, 2001) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. An ancient Jewish proverb says: "Those who pity the cruel will end up being cruel to the merciful." Draw your own conclusions from what you know and from what follows here. 2. A week ago, the following was kind-of a joke - it's not any more :-((( "The US tries to form a coalition, that will include all countries except three: Afghanistan, Iraq, and Israel. Q. Which one of the three will *not* be bombed? A. Iraq! Q. Why? A. Because after the coalition will bomb Afghanistan, Iraq will send Scud missiles against Israel. But Israel, being out of the coalition, will not be allowed to retaliate (as unfortunately Israel obeyed during the Gulf-War)." [I confess, this joke was created by me - I was never good at making jokes] 3. The ultimate cynicism: Reporters (and media managers) are threatened to death by the Palestinians, if they publish evidence about the joy of Palestinians (thousands, including policemen shooting in the air) after the terrorist attacks against the US. THEN, Hannan Ashrawy goes public (I saw her on CNN) and claims "You have only one film that you show again and again and again." Just for the record, a few days ago a Norwegian photographer was arrested in Gaza for not giving his film - showing a demonstration in support of Bin-Laden with Bin-Laden photos in the demonstration. Also, the Palestinian minister of public-relations (I forgot his name [Yasser Abed-Rabu] and the official title of his office) said in public that "we cannot guarantee the safety of press-people that will publish footage of the joy about the falling of NY's Twin-Towers and support of Bin-Laden." In Middle-Eastern-Arabian terminology, this means "We'll send assassins after you." 4. It seems the US still does not know who are their friends, if they want in the coalition not only Egypt, but also Syria (with at least ten terrorist organizations hosted in Damascus), Iran (elaboration is not required), and the Palestinians (ditto). Even if the US needs Iran's help (because it has a border with Afghanistan) it can be done without taking her into the coalition. Even if, in the end, the terrorist-Muslim countries are not in the coalition, it will not be because a sudden enlightenment of Western-thoughts but because Muslim-Kadies will order them not to participate. 5. If countries like Syria, and Iran are in the coalition, and Israel is not, it is my opinion that it is just the same as the old infamous UN resolution that equated Zionism with racism. 6. Some people in Israel say it is better for Israel not to be part of the coalition, because it may look as the battle is against Arab countries instead of against terrorist-countries. They are wrong: it will clear terrorist-countries like Syria, and it will harm Israel. The fact that there are so many Arab and Muslim countries that support (and *use*) terrorism, is their problem (and the world's) not Israel's. The fact of the matter is that all along the fight of the Arabs against Israel they have used terrorism, starting at the early fifties where Fadaiun where infiltrating Israel from Egypt and Jordan. Another example is the PLO, founded at the year 1964, three years *before* the six-days-war (June 1967) that caused Israeli ruling over Gaza, Judea and Samarya - and its mission was to destroy Israel by terrorism. In fact, Arab terrorism against Jews did not start 100 years ago (as, unfortunately, is claimed in Israeli media), but 150 years ago. My great-great grandfather (seven generations back) was probably the first victim. He was stabbed to death by an Arab, because he was organizing a rebuilt of a synagogue in old-city Jerusalem (Hurvat-Rabbi-Yehuda-Hachasid). It was not a coincident, three months before he was shot at, but escaped with minor injuries only. [Added March 11, 2007] His name was Shlomo Zalman Tzoref, and he was murdered on 1851 (see an article at Hebrew Wikipedia: http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%90%D7%91%D7%A8%D7%94%D7%9D_%D7%A9%D7%9C%D7%9E%D7%94_%D7%96%D7%9C%D7%9E%D7%9F_%D7%A6%D7%95%D7%A8%D7%A3 See also his page on the 'Victims of Terrorism' page http://www.gal-ed.co.il/leumi/details.asp?id=38445 and an article, from "Kathedra" http://www.snunit.k12.il/heb_journals/katedra/54074.html about his passport ) 7. [this one is for you to fill ;-] -------------------------------------- End of Original ------ 8. On Oct. 20, Yasser Arafat responded to the question "How can you be sure that you will succeed in stopping terrorist activities from your area?" His reply was: "Believe me, we can do that, we have done this many times." This reminded me the assertion made by a heavy smoker: "to quit smoking is easy - I have done it many times." 9. On Nov. 20, Colin Powel, secretary of states, said in a speech something in the line of "we made a coalition, containing almost all countries, except those who support terrorism." ([added 3/05] If you forgot item #2, Israel was not in the coalition. You may be one of those who claim that Israel is indeed a terrorist state, then you are either completely misinformed (not too late to read) or just part of the Hizbulla-Syrian-Iranian coalition (so we share no common basis for a serious discussion), but it must be noted that this is definitely not the point of view of the US government. Powel's statement should be taken as a slip of the tongue, demonstrating the absurdity of not taking Israel into the coalition.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright (c) 2001,2005 Yechiel Kimchi.
