We present time domain solutions to a detailed carrier injection model for multiple quantum well lasers under large signal current step injection. The calculations yield a description of electron and hole carrier density distributions in space, time and energy and also lead to the identification of a photon assisted transport mechanism which may have a major impact on the dynamics of lasers with a large number of wells.
