|Title:||A Model of Dual Bus Distributed System with Alternative Communication Port Designs

|Abstract:||This study considers a multiprocessor distributed system in which each processor is a single board computer. The system uses a reliable transmission subsystem with a two bus backbone for lnterprocess communication. Bus access is granted to requesting processors in fixed length cycles via communication ports. Several port system designs are considered each displaying a higher level of communication mechanism duplication for increased reliability and performance. The distributed system performance is evaluated using exact Markovian models. As model complexity is shown to increase rapidly with system size more efficient approximate models are also presented.· Detailed simulation is used for validation. Comparisons of system performance resulting from different communication ports realizations are provided.|
