0.8 This standard aims at achieving the following goals:
(1) To obtain true representation of every structural element, either
a consonant or vowel;
(2) To present clear and easy rules for writing.
(3) To enable simple re-transliteration to both pointed and non-pointed
versions of original Hebrew script.
By using the conversion system described in this Standard, not only a
non-pointed Hebrew text can be perfectly constructed by a person or a
computer, but also a pointed Hebrew text (even if it was not pointed in its
original form).
- RANGE OF APPLICATION
This Standard may be used by anyone who has to write Hebrew words in Latin
characters, such as for electronic mail and telegrams, and especially for
catalog files of libraries, geographic maps, indices and various types of
books. A fair knowledge of Hebrew is needed for successful transliteration.
