Fen's Description

Fen, a slender woman who, though looking young, has centuries of experience as a diplomate in a world where diplomacy is more substantial than physics.

Here's how Yuli describes this character of hers: [30 Sep 1995]

• Fen is a royal princess, the daughter of the Master of Mirgal, the Layer of Worlds, representing the element of Space.

• Fen was born in the Layered World. This universe consists of twelve layers, each one corresponding to one of the basic spheres of existence in the Global Universe [Massi's note: i.e. Mirn-Kaia], which are also known as the Spheres of Nirodiwe. These are the 6 Elements: information, energy, spell, soul, matter and space; and the 3 Exceptions: time, life and divinity.

  Each of the Exceptions appears twice in the Layered World: once in an "active" form, once in a "passive" form. [Massi's note: Here follows a description of the 12 Layers from Fen's point of view; her document did not include the names of the Rulers of the Layers, which I took liberty to add:]

  1. PEIN, passive divinity (ruled until recently by the fisua PENGIN; when the Fellowship killed Pengin, the new ruler became a ficus-tree named HANSTAR of Brast).
  2. GIGYAL, the Layer of Dreams - passive life (ruled by GILA).
  3. SALBA, the Layer of Pleasure - passive time (ruled by the salbar-queen Salibu).
  4. VERTANG, information (ruled by the ultimate amarchado VERTIGUNI).
  5. BRAST, the Layer of Growth - energy (ruled by BERSANT).
  6. LUMEA - spell
     and
  7. OMIN - soul (both ruled together by the two-headed monk overlord LOMANNI-KAR).
  8. NOKS, the Great Sea of the Elements - matter (ruled by the arch-fisua NOGAST).
  9. MIRGAL, the Layer of Worlds - space (ruled by "G.K.S.", or GANDUMIR KURNA SNIMRITAL of Krean, Snim's long-time friend and Fen's father).
  10. The Unnamed Layer of active time, ruled by the Unnamed Timelord.
  11. DIANGR, the Resting-Place of the Dead - active life (ruled by DINGARRHILI the Separator).
  12. KARM, active divinity (ruled by ETAF RIKKLIS, the ex-High Priest of the Temple which the Layered World had once been).

  Fen's name means "striving to understand the world" [Massi's note: in the ancient Rahn language of Ranku, Krean]. And indeed throughout her life she has acquired a lot of knowledge and wisdom. Since she was born, she has been foretold of the future arrival of the Fellowship of the Flying Paladin, supposed to end the world in which she lived. She has also been taught to expect the Fellowship and, in time, help its members to reach the Stone of Truth, thus saving the "Outside" World and perhaps enabling to take her and the other Layered World residents to the unknown "Outside".

  Until their arrival she served as a diplomatic emissary for special affairs in the Layer of KARM. Her high position in the universe enables her to pass freely through all the layers, and be immortal. [Massi's note: both are very exceptional privileges in the Layered World, where political bargaining and commerce serve instead of physical laws].

  Right now, Fen is torn between her desire to help the Fellowship to descend to Karm and fulfil its goals, and the knowledge of the danger which awaits them on the way down.

It remains to note that in the recently-started Game of Role Playing staged by the Timelord of the Nameless Layer, Fen has chosen to play a light-hearted and light-minded priestess of the Timelord Himself, named Sababa; this character is quite unlike her player (who is quite unlike her player...).
