Shimon Even was a superb teacher, and his courses inspired many
students.
He knew how to explain difficult issues rigorously
while maintaining the view of the entire picture.
His celebrated
books on Graph Algorithms carried his educational message
to the
entire
Computer Science community worldwide.
Shimon Even was first and foremost a scientist in search of the
scientific truth, following his nose to the "right" problems. He
contributed to the areas of switching and automata theory, graph
algorithms, combinatorial algorithms, cryptography, complexity
theory, distributed algorithms and circuit layout.
We shall all miss him, as a scientist, educator and friend.
