The project presents a new approach for 3D face recognition. The facial surface scanned in a fraction of a second and then processed into a special representation, called the "bending-invariant canonical form". This representation is insensitive to facial expressions and postures, head orientation and illumination conditions. The recognition accuracy of recognition system is very high; it was able to distinguish between Alex and Michael who are identical twins. The 3D acquisition system was developed with the help of Eyal Gordon, the Geometric Image Processing Lab. engineer. The project has already invoked interest of industrial and commercial organizations.
