Data mining is a name for a large group of algorithms which focus on distilling useful knowledge out of immense databases. In the last decade it has become clear that data mining tools are imperative for the analysis, description and understanding of the characteristics of the behavior of complex systems and organizations. DSL has two data mining groups. One is headed by Prof./Assoc. Assaf Schuster and the other by Dr. Ran El-Yaniv. The two groups focus on entirely different algorithms. This group (headed by Assaf Schuster) has two large research areas: distributed data mining and data mining of streams. DSL is a center for a variety of distributed data mining activities. Technion faculty and graduate students perform here world class research in distributed data mining algorithms. Advanced undergraduate students do their projects. Additionally, undergraduate students which attend the parallel & distributed computing course regularly implement several distributed data mining algorithms here. |
