To conduct basic and advanced research in parallel operating systems, programming languages, parallelization of numerical methods, parallel algorithms, distributed communication protocols and computer graphics.
To provide facilities for student training in undergradate and graduate courses and teaching laboratories in parallel computing.
To provide the basis for interdisciplinary and inter-university collaboration in research on parallel and distributed computing.
To encourage collaboration with Israeli industry active in the
Laboratory's areas of research.
Background
The Laboratory for Parallel Computing Research is part of the Rashi Center for Parallel Computation, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Robotics that was established in the Department of Computer Science at the Technion in 1992. The Laboratory was funded by the Fondation Raschi, with matching funds from the Technion and from the Budgets and Grants Committee of the Israeli Council for Higher Education.
Structure
All interested faculty members and students, from all
academic institutions in Israel,
whose research is in parallel computing and related
areas, may be affiliated with the Laboratory. Major purchase decisions
are made within the
Steering Committee, after
consultation with the Laboratory faculty.
